It is the artist's duty to present topical material for the world to bear witness. In today's world, this is most important for filmmakers to take to heart. That's exactly the ethos behind the 18th Annual United Nations Association Film Festival in Silicon Valley and across the Bay Area, October 15-25th. From over 600 worldwide submissions, roughly 60 short and feature-length documentaries have been selected to screen at a number of local venues, many within minutes of our San Jose hotel. Expect topics as diverse as climate change, women's rights, racism, animal poaching, and economic inequality.

 

Standout (& FREE!) Sessions

Festivalgoers who plan on making the most of the event should consider the all-access pass for $180 (Closing Party not included), while those with specific interests may be best suited paying $10 per session. In hopes of exposure, a number of the festival's 25 sessions are FREE as well. Some of the best include:

Aimed at inspiring a new generation of young activists, this late-morning session of live jazz and short films is entirely FREE!

 

UNAFF in Schools

October 22nd, 3:15pm

Eastside Theater

1041 Myrtle Street

Perhaps the most tangibly topical session all festival, this powerful collection of films and its corresponding panel discussion tackle the thorny issue of race in the United States. FREE for students and teachers.

 

Awards Ceremony & Closing Night Party

October 25th, 7pm

Stanford Univesity

520 Galvez Mall

Watch Jane's Journey, the closing film about legendary chimpanzee researcher, Jane Goodall, followed by the UNAFF award ceremony and jazz-packed after-party for just $50.
