Festival of Lights Parade

Starting Point:

First & State Streets

Downtown Los Altos

November 29th, 6pm

A treasured South Bay holiday tradition, the Festival of Lights Parade has been drawing crowds of over 17,000 since 1977. Over the last 38 years, the annual event has become something of a seasonal Silicon Valley staple, with legions of volunteers working to keep everyone's favorite floats and costumes as good as new each year.

"A Child's Holiday Fantasy"

That's the theme at the heart of the procession. Imagine a small-town version of Disney's Electric Light Parade, with roughly 25 floats ranging from fabulously ornate, intricate creations pulled along on trailers, to heartfelt renditions pushed by local schoolchildren - all aglow with hundreds, if not thousands of bright sparkling lights. While these spectacles are the parade's main draw, hundreds of costumed storybook characters gallivant among the displays, twinkling with lights themselves as they dance to the beat of marching bands playing holiday classics. Most importantly, Santa and his reindeer pass through town at the end, ushering the season in a swirl of cheer.

Where to View Along the Route

From its start at First & State Streets, the parade marches down State to Main, loops right and back up Main to First, turns left to Whitney, followed by another left to its finish at Third Street. Roads start closing around 4pm to accommodate the parade, which is the best time to arrive and claim your spot. For the best view, consider setting up on State or Main, between First and Second or Second and Third Streets. Be sure to dress warmly, and park a few blocks from the route to avoid as much traffic as possible for the 20-minute drive back to our hotel.
